How Talcum Powder Causes Ovarian Cancer
The International Journal of Gynecological Cancer states that regular use of talcum powder on the female hygiene product increases ovarian cancer risk between 30 and 60 percent. In other words, the more often you use it, the more likely you will be diagnosed with cancer.
Talcum powder consists of talc and magnesium silicate that is mined from naturally-occurring deposits through specific areas of the United States and throughout the globe. However, it is also typically found close to asbestos deposits. Despite claiming its products to be “asbestos-free” upon discovery, talc still causes cancer.
According to research, talc particles enters the vagina and passes through the uterus and into the fallopian tubes and ovaries. Similar to asbestos, talc is a silicate mineral and has a crystalline structure. When it enters the body, talc can cause irritation, resulting in chronic inflammation that initiates the development of cancerous tumors.
In the first study from Wales back in 1971, researchers discovered 10 out of 13 ovarian tumors had talc particles in them. In 1982, the first epidemiologic study found a 92 percent increase in the risk of ovarian cancer if women use talc powder as a feminine hygiene product. Since then, there have been many studies which confirm the dangers of talcum powder.
